appearing in the very popular TV series "Samantha Who?" as Regina
Newly, Jean Smart has been a
strong supporter of the Alzheimer's Association since she lost her
father to the devastating disease two years ago. Mr. Smart was a
very popular high school history teacher at Ballard, Rainier Beach,
and Nathan Hale where he served as head of the history department.
He also taught American History classes in night school to people
preparing to become citizens of the United States.
"My father was my hero," says Jean. "When he was diagnosed with the
disease it was so painful for me and my family. I have three
siblings and we're very close, and going through my father's illness
only made us closer."
"But, I know what families are facing when a loved one is diagnosed
with Alzheimer's disease. Families desperately need the kinds of
services and programs offered by the Alzheimer's Association. That's
why I support this wonderful organization."
"Our ultimate vision is to live in a world without Alzheimer's. That
can only be achieved through investments in science that will lead
to better treatments and a cure. The good news is scientists are
closing in on figuring out some of the mechanisms involved and
perhaps in finding a cure soon," said Jean. "Now, more than ever, is
the time for people to do whatever they can to help the Alzheimer's
Association." |
